Stag do in Poznań: the weekend guide

Cheaper than Kraków, less crowded than Prague, with an Old Town full of bars a few minutes' walk apart. We run three of them. Here’s how we’d plan your weekend.

Poznań has direct flights from several UK airports, a compact Old Town and prices that still surprise British visitors. A stag group can walk between all the bars below without a single taxi, apart from the ride from the airport.

Getting there

Poznań Ławica Airport is about 20 minutes by taxi or bus from the centre. Check the current routes from London and regional UK airports, as they change with the season. Most groups stay in apartments around the Old Market Square, so you’re never more than five minutes from a bar.

Friday: arrive and warm up

Drop your bags and head to Żydowska Street. Start at Lot Chmiela (Żydowska 4), a British-style pub with Guinness on draught, a beer garden and tasting boards, so the group can try four Polish craft beers each. Then move a few doors up to Wściekły Chmiel (Żydowska 10), open until 2 am.

Saturday: the main event

Sleep it off, then see the goats butt heads on the Town Hall at noon (Old Market Square guide). Afternoon: foosball tournament, darts and the football at Cooliozum, our sports pub on Święty Marcin. Evening: book a private cellar at Wściekły Chmiel with 18 taps on the floor above, a casino night, pub quiz or karaoke for the group, and pizza for everyone. You won’t need to leave until closing time.

Sunday: recovery

Brunch, a walk across to Ostrów Tumski for some fresh air, and one last pint in the Lot Chmiela beer garden before the flight.

Book a stag or hen package

Wściekły Chmiel puts together stag and hen nights for groups: a private cellar, activities and food. See stag do in Poznań at Wściekły Chmiel. For full weekend packages with more activities around the city, our friends at kawalerskie.org can help.

A few house rules

  • Bring ID. You must be 18 to buy alcohol in Poland, and bars may ask.
  • Drinking alcohol in public places, such as streets and parks, is illegal and the fines are real.
  • Costumes are welcome. Behave, and the staff will look after you all night.
